1. Quick Overview
Final plan for this room:
- 12 bays × 2 cans = 24 total lights
- Bay widths you measured as your typical set:
- Left: ~7 ft
- Center: ~7 ft 4 in
- Right: ~6 ft 7 in
- Use this page to lock in:
- Bay label (1L, 1C, 1R, etc.)
- Width per bay
- Can 1 & Can 2 distance off the left beam
- Any notes (beams, fans, TV wall, etc.)
Rule of thumb: keep cans clean in the bay and off problem spots (ceiling fans, returns, TV wall).
2. How to Use (On-Site)
- Stand at the main reference wall (e.g., facing from front door into room).
- Label each bay in order (1L, 1C, 1R, 2L, 2C, 2R… or any system that makes sense to you).
- Measure bay width beam-to-beam and type it in (ft + in).
- Mark where Can 1 and Can 2 land off the left beam (inches or feet + inches).
- Use notes for “avoid fan,” “keep off TV wall,” “line with island,” etc.
This doesn’t have to be pretty — it just has to be correct. The beauty shows up when the cans are cut.
